Final Year Project

Project Title

Suicide in Pakistani Society: Why bother?

Description

My research paper deals with the subject of suicide and the way Pakistani society reacts towards the word itself. The key resource used for this paper was Durkheim’s “Suicide” in order to explain the oppressive structure through the concept of anomie, integration and normative expectations within the individual and structured relationship. The main factor that results in the provocation of suicide is the idea that the world might not be accommodating enough, given its resources are governed by structures owning capital, is how an individual does not contribute or integrate within the society anymore, rather is an extra added burden on the structure. While resources gathered for this paper are geographically specific to Karachi, the literature referred to spans across the world. The aim of this paper is to start a discourse; on how to deconstruct suicide and with it understand society and structures better.
